Tigress of the Shrubland (16)
Branches busted through the walls, windows, roof, and floor. The pine tree grew at an impossible speed in all directions. Miss Staghorn screeched and ran out of the room, but Janice leapt atop a growing limb and rode it out of a hole to rest dangling in the air.
The limbs continued to wreak glory under the light of the moon, storming through the house as a sentient thing. People ran outside screaming. She hoped that nobody was hurt, but mostly her heart thrilled to see her prison soundly destroyed. Walls splintered, windows shattered, heartbreak crumbled. Her anxiety calmed when she saw Charles emerge from the kitchen door at the back.
“Charlie!” she yelled. It might be the first time she had yelled in years. “Beagle!” The spindly man turned and gaped at her sitting high in the air. She grinned and waved.
