Same experience, along with a ton of bad erotica. My way around it has been periodically searching tags I'm interested in, like short stories, fiction, or philosophy. When I find someone I like, I follow them, and I individually click their avatars at the top of the homepage, instead of sifting through the homepage blend.

Mostly, I just keep my head down and keep writing fiction. 📚
